Get ready to spice up your October with these amazing treks, starting from the Markha Valley trek.

1. Markha Valley Trek

One of the unique treks from Ladakh, the Markha Valley Trek takes you through the stunning landscapes of the Himalayas and offers breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks, deep gorges, and picturesque villages. It usually takes around 9 days to complete and cover the trek distance of approximately 65 kilometers. The trail starts from Spituk and goes through several villages such as Skiu and Nimaling, before finally ending at the beautiful Shang Sumdo.

A moderately challenging trek, the Markha Valley Trek involves crossing several high-altitude passes. These include the Kongmaru La Pass and the Gandala La Pass. The trek also involves hiking through narrow gorges and crossing the Markha River multiple times. Villages along the trail are home to the ethnic Ladakhi people and they give you a chance to know more about their unique culture. The best time to visit Markha Valley is from May to October.

2. Dayara Bugyal Trek

The Dayara Bugyal trek begins from the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand and takes 6 days to complete. It is a beautiful collection of alpine meadows, and forests with multiple trees like oak and Rhododendron, situated at an altitude of around 12,000 feet. The trek is also known for the stunning views it offers, of the Himalayan Gangotri peaks and the Bandarpunch mountain. It is best done between September and May.

This trek is ideal for beginners since it’s well-marked and easy to follow with a map. Dense forests, charming meadows, and gushing streams– all these features of the Dayara Bugyal trek make it a great way to connect with nature. Barnala Tal is one alpine lake that you’ll come across as you complete the first day of your trek. It is the perfect, tranquil area to rest and take in the beauty of nature. The trek gets a little challenging each day from here on.

3. Rupin Pass Trek

Another popular trekking route from Uttarakhand, the Rupin Pass trek is a moderate to difficult level trek that takes you through some of the most stunning landscapes and pristine natural beauty of the Himalayas. Arising from a small village called Dhaula, which is located in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand, the trek covers around 52 km and takes about 8 days to complete.

Along the way, you will come across dense forests, charming meadows, cascading waterfalls, and high-altitude mountain passes. The highlight of the trek is undoubtedly the Rupin Pass, which stands at an altitude of 15,250 feet above sea level. The breathtaking views offered by the summit include the surrounding snow-capped peaks of Kinner Kailash, Dhauladhar, and Kinnaur.

This trek is best done between May and October. The weather is pleasant, and the trails are relatively dry, making it easier for trekkers to navigate their way through the rugged terrain. We must also mention that the Rupin Pass Trek is not for the faint-hearted; the trail gets challenging at times, with steep ascents, rocky terrains, and unpredictable weather conditions. We recommend that you undertake this trek only if you have prior trekking experience and are physically fit.
