Buran Ghati Trek – One of the best treks in Summer

You have worked so hard for months now, and summers are the time you must take a break and cool down. If you are wondering where to vacation this summer? And if you are bored of the same water parks, resorts, beaches, and pools, you desperately want to try something new? Something thrilling and adventurous yet away from the scorching heat? I got you! Would you believe me? If I told you that one can go for treks in May? Yes, away from hot the summers, visualize yourself in your pretty floral summer dress sitting in large meadow extensions full of rich greens. The Buran Ghati trek is one of few treks that could be done in May, and this is going to be an unforgettable experience for you.

The Buran Ghati is located in the land of braves and the gem of India, Himachal Pradesh. The Buran pass has an elevation of about 15,059 feet. The perfect time to plan this trek is during May and June and then again during September and October. This region is prohibited sometimes, during the winters due to excessive snowfall and ultimately, trekking becomes extremely difficult and risky during snowfall. Moreover, this is one of the treks in May that is not only an escape from the heat but also offers such fulfillment. Surprisingly the weather is too cool even during the super-hot month of May, so carrying warm blankets and sleeping bags to prevent an excessive cold is mandatory.

When it comes to the Buran Ghati trek, it is not like any other simplistic trekking experience; it offers you a collection of different kinds of natural creation. Starting from peaks and mountains, local-traditional villages, plus local cuisines, forests, meadows and grasslands, stunning lakes, pasturelands, and what not! It is replete with everything! One interesting piece of trip advice is, during this trek, make sure to visit the Barua village located in Medinipur of West Bengal. This village has about 332 people residing, this is the perfect place to explore the local culture, folk arts, and traditional cuisine. The trek is incomplete without visiting the jaw-dropping Chandranahan Lake that lies across the Buran Ghati, which is lying at an altitude of 14,000 feet. Chandranahan Lake is considered the source of the Pabbar River. Certainly, you would love to side beside the lake in solitude and reflect. In fact, this lake is considered to be the highlight of the whole trek. It is purely formed out of the natural melting of the snow. Locals believe that the lake is so sacred, that it has been poured out by the Gods. The 360-degree view from the Buran pass will surely be your memorable experience in the whole of the Buran Ghati trek.

One more highlight of the Buran Ghati trek is the village of Janglik. This village is known for its rich culture. On the way to Dayara from the Janglik village is an amazing ride through the dense forests and enthralling meadows. Here you will see small, beautiful shepherds’ huts, and jungles of oak and pine trees, make sure to take home one fallen pinecone as a souvenir. At an altitude of 737 feet, the trail of Dayara to Litham is truly heaven on earth. You’ll find little brooks, streams, and meadows. Apart from that, a walk through the Gunas Pass, surrounded by the snow-dressed mountains of the Dhauladhar range, and the Gunas Pass trek is the cherry on top!

The base of the Buran Ghati trek is situated at Janglik. In order to reach here, we begin at Shimla. Shimla is about 10 hours from our base camp at Janglik. You might think the drive is too long but embrace yourself for mesmerizing roadside landscape, replete with nature’s beauty. Rivers, roads adorned with tall trees, this blend of nature is a perfect ride through the chilly weather. During the traverse from Shimla, you’ll come across Rohu, where you will find tiny settlements still embedded in their traditional culture. I would suggest you keep your favorite playlist downloaded and sit back and enjoy the rest of the ride since, after crossing Rohu you’ll hardly find any network. Rohu is also the last spot where you’ll find an ATM. After Rohu, we reach Janglik via Tanglu, Chirgoan, and Diude. If you consider traveling via airway, then the Jubbarhatti airport is the nearest. Jubbarhatti is 22km from Shimla. However, you are free to take other airports like the Chandigarh and New Delhi airports, as per your convenience.
