Starting the Year With The Amazing Brahmatal Trek
Me and family welcomed this new year with a trek and truly this was an awesome idea. After undertaking the solo Ali Bedni Bugyal Trek last year, this year I along with my family undertook the wonderful Brahmatal Trek. The whole trekking journey was thrilling, refreshing and was indeed a great way to start the new the year with!
First Day Of The Trek
On the very first day of our trekking journey, we had a long yet a pretty-viewed drive from Dehradun to Lohajung. We crossed through Devprayag, Srinagar and Rudraprayag. We also witnessed the conflux of the two purest rivers namely Bhagirathi and Alaknanda at Devprayag. From Devprayag then we made our journey to Srinagar which was of around 40 kilometres. After an hour of drive, we reached Rudraprayag which was around 33 kilometres from Devprayag. There, we found the confluence of the river Mandakini and Alaknanda. A further drive of 120 kilometres took us to Lohajung. Once we reached Lohajung, we could see the beautiful Nanda Ghunti peak, the view was literally amazing before the sunset. We started our journey next day early in the morning.
Second Day Of The Trek
On the second day of the trek, we started very early with a few exercises and breakfast and advanced to Bekaltal. It took around 5 hours to reach the Bekaltal campsite. We witnessed very beautiful scenic views from Lohajung campsite to Bekaltal campsite, the trail comprised of dense mountain forests covered with oak and fir. We also witnessed some snow-clad mountain peaks from there. Following the trail, we reached the Bekaltal campsite soon and tents were pitched with hot lunch served. We went to Bekaltal lake for an evening walk which was at a distance of 15 minutes from where the tents were pitched, came back and took rest for the day.
Third Day Of The Trek
On the third day of the trek, we began from Bekaltal, all the way to Brahmatal. It took around 4 hours to reach the destination. We started our day early after having a hearty breakfast. During the first one hour, we found a steep ascent through Bekaltal Lake. Then we found a gradual ascent for a few hours followed by a steep descent and then followed a gradual ascent till the campsite. We also witnessed the mesmerizing Shivalik range as well as the Greater Himalayas from there. After reaching the Brahmatal Campsite, we rested for some time and then in the evening, we went to visit Brahmatal Lake which wa sat a distance of 500 metres from the campsite. It was followed by hot dinner and an overnight stay at the campsite.
Fourth Day Of The Trek
On the fourth day we had to conquer the Brahmatal and then descend back to Brahmatal campsite. Brahmatal was at an altitude of 12,600 feet while Brahmatal campsite was located at 10,735 feet. It took approximately 6 hours to complete the day’s journey. We started the day early and set out for the journey to the Brahmatal trek. On the advancement on the trail, we found a small yet clear stream that was formed as a result of the melting of the snow. After walking for a quite a time, we finally reached Brahmatal. The supreme mountains that were visible from our sight included Chaukhambha, Mandir, Mana, Nilgiri, Neelkant, Trishul, Nanda Ghunti, and Maitoli to name some of the mountains of the Panchachuli range. The blissful and panoramic view of the snow-topped mountains of Himalayas was truly a great experience. We spent some time there and descended back to the base camp. There we had an overnight stay at the tent with delicious dinner served, bringing an end to that happening day.
Fifth Day Of The Trek
On the fifth day, we set out for the next trail which was to the Lohajung village. The schedule was to descend from Brahmatal base camp to Lohajung. The total trekking distance was 9 kilometres and took approximately 6 hours to complete our journey. It was a very euphoric trek which also gave us lot of time to click endless number of pictures of the nature. We reached Lohajung by evening and then went to explore the nearby village of Lohajungi and bought some stuff as a souvenir of the location. We enjoyed dinner at a nearby Dhaba and the good day was followed by sound sleep.
Sixth Day Of The Trek
On the very last day of the trek, we drove back to Dehradun from the Lohajung village. Adrive of 300 kilometres advanced us to Dehradun. We reached Dehradun by 6:30 pm. This finally marked the end of our great trekking journey.
The Brahmatal Trek was just as wonderful like it always claimed to be. The Brahmatal Trek cost around Rs. 9600 and truly it can be said that this trek freshens up ones soul and is just like heaven to all!
