Needless to mention the Kashmir great lakes trek located in Kashmir — the gem of India and heaven on earth. You need a week’s break of just 7 days to bring back your original self. The elevation of the Kashmir Great Lakes trek is about 13,800 feet. The trek distance covers 73 km, as I said before, the trek is moderately challenging and recommended for people more than 12 years of age. The best time to do this trek is from the beginning of July to September. During the period from July to September, it rains in most parts of the country and that’s when the truly beautiful side of nature pops out. Moreover, it is Kashmir already, you will experience nature at its best. The base camp for this trek is located at Sonamarg Kashmir and the pick-up point is at the tourist reception center which is located in Srinagar — the capital of Kashmir.
Your eyes will witness the beauty of majestic serene lakes, jaw-dropping vast green meadows, valleys, and breathtaking scenarios. If you are a regular trekker then this trek must top your bucket list. The Kashmir Great Lakes trek is a must-do high-altitude trek.
This is one of the most popular treks in Kashmir because of the five beautiful lakes nestled in the landscape of Kashmir. Climbing through the majestic mountains and at the same time gazing through the calm and serene lakes Kashmir has it all. It’s a seven days trek and on each new day of the trek, you’ll visit a new lake, and sometimes you will also witness a floating iceberg in cold freezing blue lakes.
The best time to do this trek is from July to August when the flora and fauna are in full bloom. The snow carpet melts in June saturating the colours for July. The trek will begin after the arrival at Shitkadi just a few kilometres from Sonamarg and the trek will end after the drive to Srinagar.
