Beas Kund Trek - A 4-day Enriching Experience of Trekking in the Himalayas

Contrary to mainstream beliefs trekking in Himalayas is not always a daunting sport. As opposed to being an extremely intimidating task that most probably requires good mountaineering skills and knowledge, trekking in the Himalayas can sometimes be exceptionally easy and fun.

Especially with treks such as the Beas Kund Trek or the Bhrigu Lake Trek, trekking in the Himalayas can prove to be an easy, action-packed and thrilling activity ideal for amateurs as well as new trekking enthusiasts.

One of the many treks known to offer relaxed experiences of trekking in the Himalayas is the Beas Kund Trek. The Beas Kund Trek, based in the state of Himachal Pradesh, is an easy-grade trek that takes you to a maximum altitude of 12,772 ft in just two days of relaxed trekking. It is a trek that allows you to venture into the enchanting and fascinating valleys of Solang, Lohali, Dhundi, and Lady Leg to access the jaw-dropping and spellbinding beauty of the magnificent peaks of the Pir Panjal and Dhauladhar Ranges standing afar in all their glory.

The entire trail to the Beas Kund Lake sneaks in and out of some of the most remote regions of Himachal Pradesh, all the while introducing you to picturesque views of aspired and drooled-over, notable mountain peaks such as the Friendship Peak, Deo Tibba Peak, Indrasen Peak, and the Ladakhi Peak, etc.

The easy fetching of such marvelous mountainscapes is what sets apart the Beas Kund trek from other easy trekking expeditions across the country.

The trek to Beas Kund begins from the alluring Solang Valley perched at an altitude of 8,500 ft that can be reached through a smooth drive from the enticing hill station of Manali, distanced approximately 12 km away. It takes roughly 2 hours to cover this distance.

Once you reach the Solang Valley, you can begin your trek towards the Dhundi Valley that lies about 8 km away. As you trek away from Solang Valley, you will enter lush green, undulating landscapes and even cross a river to reach the Dhundi Valley at 10,335 ft.

After a night stay at Dhundi, you can resume the Beas Kund Trek with a 4 km hike to the campsite of Bakar Thach, nestled at an altitude of 10,730 ft. The trek from Dhundi Valley to Bakar Thach is astonishingly fascinating since you begin to catch glimpses of the majestic Indrasen, Deo Tibba, and the Seven Sister Peaks as you leave the sparse forests of Oak and Fir trees and elevate towards the campsite of Bakar Thach.

Approximately 6 km away from Bakar Thach lies the enthralling Lake of Beas Kund at an altitude of 12,772 ft. Since the lake lies so close to the base camp, you are to trek to Beas Kund and return to Bakar Thach the same day.

The trek from Bakar Thach to Beas Kund is refreshingly beautiful. You will traverse vast, undulating, lush green meadows to unfold the beautiful, pristine alpine lake of Beas Kund encapsulated by the mind-boggling mountainscapes of Himachal Pradesh. The crisp reflections of the magnificent surroundings in the lake make the frame appear all the more fascinating and enthralling.

After spending quality time by the lake and relishing solitude like never before, you will retrace the same path to descend to Bakar Thach before late evening. It takes roughly 4–5 hours of relaxed trekking to ascend as well as descend along this trail.

Interestingly, the Beas Kund Lake also serves as a base camp for many trekking expeditions such as the Hanuman Tibba Trek, the Friendship Peak Trek, the Ladakhi Trek, and the Shitidhar Trek.

A final, 13 km long trek on the fourth or the last day of the Beas Kund expedition wraps up the entire journey into one wholesome and adventurous trekking expedition. As you trek away from Bakar Thatch towards Solang Valley, retracing the same paths, admire the vibrant and enlivening landscapes one last time and relish the transfixing experience to the fullest.

After you reach Solang Valley, a smooth two-hour-long drive back to Manali will bring your Beas Kund trek to a full circle.
